Deadpan & Melodrama: Play and
Presence (London)
A one off evening course as a taster. Aim will be to run this as a six week course. This course combines elements of clown, melodrama, deadpan comedy, and tackles areas such as comic misalignment, response, seriousness/sincerity, and presence.

Principals of what we find funny: contrast, wrong place/wrong time, scale, incongruity, etc.

Develop physical presence and comic clarity

Understanding comedy can be used as scale, not technique (deadpan/emotional extremes).

World is serious, performer is ridiculous vs world is ridiculous, performer is serious.

Gain confidence in developing emotional and physical extremes/presence.

Learn stage craft, complicite, build a relationship with the audience, dynamics and rhythm.
