Clown Weekend

Edinburgh

Clown is not a character, a technique, face paint or big shoes. It is pleasure, play, openness and optimism. It is a state that sharpens your connection with an audience.

Over a full weekend, we’ll take time to stay inside that state and explore what makes each of us uniquely funny. This is a practical workshop, you’ll be on your feet, be seen, and hopefully having fun.

Across two days, we’ll move from simple presence into longer, sustained play.

Day one focuses on games, stillness, optimism, pleasure and the flop.
Day two builds from this, developing ideas through repetition, exploring how problems become material, saving the show, and more games.

We’ll work on:

• enjoying the flop rather than rushing to fix it
• fishing with the audience and responding

• pleasure, play and fixed point
• building a direct, honest relationship with the audience
• the joy of the problem

By the end of the weekend, you’ll have a clearer sense of your own comic instincts, and how to build, sustain and develop them in front of an audience.

This workshop is particularly suited to comedians and improvisers who want to deepen their presence with an audience and engage more fully with their own ridiculousness.
