Intro to Clown

(Brighton)

Clown is not a character, a technique, face paint or big shoes. It is pleasure, play, openness and optimism. It is a state that sharpens your connection with an audience.

In this introductory workshop, rooted in modern European clown practice, we’ll explore what makes each of us uniquely funny. We’ll look at stillness, optimism, failure and the simple act of being seen.

We’ll work on:

• enjoying the flop rather than rushing to fix it

• games games games
• finding play in awkwardness
• building a direct, honest relationship with the audience
• allowing the body to do less and mean more
• the joy of the problem

This workshop is particularly suited to comedians and improvisers who want to deepen their presence with an audience and engage more fully with their own ridiculousness.

This workshop is Pay What You Can, which can be submitted via Ko-fi/Paypal before, during or after the workshop. Cash or card on the day is also accepted.
